When To Seek Therapy
It
is time to get help when the coping mechanisms that you have been using to deal
with your problems are no longer working. You may be the first to recognize
this. It may also be a family member, friend, teacher, or boss that suggests
that you get help. Often others in your life are more bothered by your behavior
than you are.
If you are wondering if your child may need therapy, start by asking yourself if your child is happy and secure. Consider the quality of your relationship/communication with your child and how your child's behavior is affecting the family. You are your child's best resource and advocate. Connecting them to a therapist does not take anything away from your importance as a parent. You and I will work together to help your child.
Remember, seeking help is not a weakness. People who seek help are healthier than those that keep doing the same things that cause them problems. No matter what finally motivates you to get help, know that it is an action of self care.
