About My Practice

Picture
My name is Bob Kuchta and my goal is to help you improve the quality of your life and the lives of those you care about. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been working with children and families since 1996. I offer individual and family counseling in a private, relaxed office close to downtown Panama City.  I am fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

We all face challenges and sometimes feel discouraged. Some challenges test our beliefs while others push us to learn new ways of dealing with life. These challenges create stress and can cause us to feel stuck or overwhelmed. This leads to mental and emotional pain. That pain may take the form of worry, excessive anger, depression, confusion, anxiety, fear, grief, excessive shame or guilt, obsessive thinking, indecisiveness, feelings of emptiness, distressing memories and self-judgment. How the pain presents is unique to each of us.

These challenges can happen at any stage of life: childhood, adolescence or adulthood. Mental and emotional pain that is not addressed tends to develop into behavior problems such as constant arguments, anger outbursts, withdrawal, avoidance, defensiveness, isolation, interpersonal struggles, insomnia, addictions, compulsions, lack of assertiveness and impulsivity. The response is also unique to each of us.

My goal as a therapist is to help you work through your challenges and pain to find new ways of dealing with them. I am a guide, supporter, educator, facilitator, mediator, and advocate for you and the ones you care about.

I believe we have all learned ways to keep ourselves regulated, like a thermostat. We each live in an environment that, for better or worse, we have grown accustomed to. This is called our “homeostasis”. Adjusting our “homeostasis” as an individual or family takes work and support. In therapy I want to help you observe yourself on a few different levels, develop increased insight and self acceptance, nurture your strengths, learn to make better choices, and come to trust yourself more.   One of the techniques I use to facilitate this is called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).  Over the past 30 years it has been shown to be one of the most effective ways to help people process and heal form their trauma and stress.

You deserve to live in hope, have self respect, and trust yourself. This is the foundation of my practice and philosophy.
